Folder Management

You can create, rename and delete folders on the IMAP server.

  1. From the Accounts screen, tap the name of the account to access. After connecting to the IMAP server, the list of messages present on the server will be displayed. For folders with unread mail, the number of unread messages will be shown to the right of the folder name:

  2. By tapping and entering a folder name, a new folder with that name will be immediately created on the IMAP server:

  3. If you tap on the name of a folder, information about that folder will be displayed:

From there, you can change the name of the folder, search the word contains form subject or mail from, and create subfolders.

If you rename a folder which is used in message processing rules, you must manually edit those rules to refer to the new folder name.

You can also read the text of messages in the folder:

Messages viewed here will be marked as read.

  4. From the message viewing screen, you can initiate a reply message. You can also forward the message to another recipient:

  5. To delete a folder, tap on the (-) icon to the left of the folder name in the list, and then tap the button.

Processing Mail with Rules

Incoming mail can be automatically sorted into the desired folders, or automatically deleted, according to the contents of the message.

  1. From the Accounts screen, tap the name of the account to manage. After connecting to the IMAP server, the list of messages present on the server will be displayed:

  2. Tap the button to display the Rules screen:

  3. By tapping , the Rule Settings screen is displayed with a new blank rule for you to edit:

You can set the name of the folder to process, the conditions to be met to activate this rule (multiple conditions are allowed), and the actions to be taken when those conditions are met.

Conditions can be based on the value of message headers (such as "Subject", "From", "Date", or any arbitrary header), the message text, or the message's read/unread status.

The processing action can move the message to another folder, copy the message to another folder, or delete the message.

  4. You can create more rules to be applied to the same folder by following the same procedure again.
  5. After returning to the Rules screen, you can tap the button to process the messages in this account according to the rules you have defined.
  6. Tapping the button will display a log of the processing decisions that have been applied.

  7. If the Apply rules at startup option is turned on in the Accounts screen, processing rules defined in that account will be applied automatically when IMAP Folders is started:

For that to happen, you also need to turn on the Apply rules at startup option in the IMAP Folders entry of the iPhone Settings screen:

You can turn off the automatic execution of processing rules without having to start IMAP Folders by turning off the Apply rules at startup option in the IMAP Folders entry of the iPhone Settings screen.

  8. You can revise a given rule by simply tapping on it in the Rules screen.
  9. To delete a processing rule, tap the (-) icon to the left of the rule in the list, and then tap the button.

Messages will be moved and deleted according to the rules you configure. Please be careful when creating message processing rules.
